The Presentation and Defense category is communication centered. We put our attention on what and how the results of the projects are orally and interactively argued and communicated. We evaluate the abilities of the students to disseminate and defend the achieved results. The emphasis for our evaluation is on the presentation and discussion skills of the student and on the qualitative and quantitative coverage of the achieved results.

A. Coverage of research outcomes
Definition: Clarity of problem formulation, clarity on contributions and main conclusions from the research. Choice and relevance of presented material
Main gradient: Key elements are included → Explicit problems, research questions, and solutions → Effective coverage of all relevant aspects → Presentation adds value → Broad scientific and societal context.

B. Presentation skills
Definition: Didactic quality of presentation, clarity, pace, self-confidence, correctness of formulations, accuracy of timing, fitting for audience, ability to attract attention and interest from audience.
Main gradient: Correct formulations and pace → Eye contact, non-verbal communication → Self-confidence and enthusiasm → Unique style and perfect timing → Inspirational, convincing.

C. Quality of supporting material
Definition: Effectiveness of visual support (slides), quality of demonstration, sound or other equipment

- The presentation is not structured, does not add to the understanding of the project;
- The defense is weak and the student does not understand the questions of the audience;
- There are serious mistakes in e.g. formulas, statements, units.
